History of FBC Columbia
1956
A mission church was started in Columbia by First Baptist Church of Dupo
1958
The mission church was constituted as First Baptist Church of Columbia
1959
A two-story house was purchased on W. Bottom Avenue which housed the Pastor and was used for services.
1962
A brick building (auditorium) with a basement were dedicated
1964
An additional basement section was added to back of the auditorium. The original two-story house was torn down, which provided additional parking.
1965
Purchased the adjoining property to the west of our church
1980
Rev. Don Branson begins his service as Pastor. He serves until his health forces him to resign in 1996. Under Rev. Branson, construction of our long dreamed of and greatly needed sanctuary began and was completed in October of 1982. As we continued to grow, construction began once again; this time to expand our sanctuary and build our present education wing. This work was completed in 1994.
1998
Our present pastor, Jonathan Peters, begins his ministry.
2005
Having outgrown our current location, and having voted to relocate, our church finally locates suitable property for relocation. After a long period of searching, praying and fasting, we completed the purchase of 46 acres of farmland off Valmeyer Road, located on a ridge overlooking Route 3.
We are currently preparing to relocate to the new property. Our Building Committee is working on preparing the land and on plans for phase 1 of our new facility.
2008
FBC Columbia celebrates its 50th anniversary.
